2.    Introduction:

A case study is intensive analysis of an individual’s unit e.g.: person or group. The case study investigates a contemporary phenomenon within a natural environment. It involves the detail description and analysis of single instance. As it is a longitudinal investigation, data is collected and analyzed in periodic interval to find out the development pattern of change. The findings are derived after a vast investigation of the research carried out of different period of time.

Most of the students fail in English subject at School. This problem mainly has been seen in class six. So, the researcher has focussed on the students of class six. He has decided to find out the causes of failure students of class six in English subject.

3.    Objectives:

The objectives of the present study are as follows:

a.    To find out the causes of maximum failure students of class six at Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School.

b.    To suggest some tips to the students parents, and teachers for improving English language.

4.    Significance of the study : 

The study will be significant to the teacher and other researcher who are interested in research. It will be beneficial for the students, teachers, school administrators, parents, PTA and SMC.

5.    Limitation of the study:

The study has the following limitation:

a.    The study was limited to Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School.

b.    The data was collected only from the students of class vi of Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School.

c.     The study was limited to English subject.

d.    The research tools were limited to English subject.

6.    Plan:

The researcher has made the following plan.

a.    The researcher will use primary sources and secondary sources of data.

b.    He will focus on only the students of class VI of Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School.

c.     He will collect the data by using tools.

d.    He will analyse the data.

e.    He will find out the causes of problems and suggest recommendation.

f.      At last he will come to the conclusion.

7.    Methodology:

The researcher has adopted the following methodology.

a.    Sources of data:

Both primary and secondary sources of data were used for the study.

i.                   Primary sources of data

The students of class six and their parents were the primary sources of data from which the researcher elicited required data for the study.

ii.                 Secondary sources of Data:

The sources of data such as the students mark ledger or mark sheet were used to collect data.

b.    Tools for data collection:

For the collection of data, a set of questionnaires and a mobile phone recorder were also used for it.

c.     Process of data collection:

The researcher asked for permission with principle of Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School for the data collection. He called all the pareTnts of the students of class VI of Bhadrapur Higher Secondary School for intersection programme. He organised joint meeting with SMC, PTA, parents, teachers and students. He took information from the 2nd term examination. After data collection he has presented the information at the table below.

d.    Analysis and interpretation of Data:

After the data collection, the researcher has presented the information at table above. There are seventy four students at class six. From the research, he has found that out of seventy four students, there are only ten students who have passed the 2nd term examination in English subject. There are fifty four students who couldn’t pass it and ten students were drop out. The table clearly shows that most of the students have failed the exam in English subject. So, it is essential to find out the reason why the most of the students fail in English subject and give suggestions to solve the problems to the stake holders.

8.    Causes of the problem:

  To find the causes of the problems, the researcher has studied the data. The data clearly shows that there is very serious problems in the field of teaching and learning English language. After analysing the data, the researcher has found out the following problems.

a.    There is a poor family background of the students.

b.    Almost all of the students have no basic knowledge of English language.

c.     There is an irregular attendance of the students.
